If Only I Could Grow My Audience...

Just like you, I feel honoured to be able to serve as a Health Professional. Yet there came a moment when the years of long and intense work burned me out.

I needed to find a way to help more people, but also a way to work less. 


"Get into academia", they said...

I LOVE teaching and delving into research, but after trying that out, I found myself working MORE, yet earning LESS. I then found a leadership role at a top university, but that came with more admin and bureaucracy, rather than being able to spend time doing what I love, which was teaching & mentorship of the next generation of Health Professionals.


"Get into entrepreneurship", they said...

I've been advising and mentoring startup Founders, and almost went down that path myself, but that's really not for me. I don't know many Founders that are able to pull off what I feel I need as a busy Health Professional. Not only do I want to work less, but I also have a family to support. I can't work for free at this point in my life, while chasing investors and family to fund my dream. Any money raised would go into developing tech or some other form of innovative solution, yet there's no guarantee that it will work, or anyone will buy.


"Why not earn passive income by investing in real estate", they said...

Sure, I could do that, but I want to be doing what I've spent years specialising in. I want to serve by helping to improve health and wellbeing.


"Sell an online course", they said...

My mentors introduced me to a way to scale my impact, help more people, work less, yet earn more, by doing precisely what I love (teaching and sharing what I know). So I started an online health business, advising and mentoring Health Entrepreneurs, yet I couldn't sell.

First off, selling doesn't come naturally. We weren't taught to sell, and I'm not a salesperson. I want to help people, not sell them stuff. 

That's when one of my mentors changed my perspective and taught me how sales could be seen as a service, where I'm offering my audience a service that I know will help them. I just had to find a way for them to hear my message, and see the benefits too.


"Start a podcast and teach", they said...

So I took a couple of courses, learned how to do a podcast & YouTube channel, posting updates on social media. Yet I couldn't grow my audience. Sure I started making sales, but they weren't predictable or regular.


"Get a mentor & join a community / mastermind", they said...

Finally something that worked! Now that was expensive, and I had to think twice. Yet I wish I had done that sooner, rather than waiting 10 years.

Though this last move set me back a few thousand, I was ready to go all in once and for all. Within a few weeks, I was able to see a return on my investment, all because I learned one seemingly simple strategy.

You must have the end in mind:

  • Who are you speaking to?
  • What action would you like them to take?
  • How would you like them to behave or think differently?

Unless you have that action or the behaviour change in mind, then anything you say in your content marketing is just wasting time.

People are busy, right?

So we need to focus and help our audience feel comfortable that they can actually do what we are teaching them, show that we understand them, we feel their pains, and know what they need to do to overcome their challenges. By holding their hand and guiding them a step towards where they want to be, they will experience some initial wins. They will then come back and ask you for more help.

What you'll soon realise is that you actually don't need thousands of "followers". You just need a small tribe to connect with deeply, help them, serve them, and beautiful things can happen.
