Why are you attracted to health innovation & entrepreneurship?
Having a strong why has many benefits:
1. You’re more likely to achieve their goals
2. It gives you the motivation to keep going when things get tough
3. It helps you stay focused and avoid distractions
4. It gives you a sense of purpose and meaning in life
5. It can help you overcome obstacles and setbacks
6. It can inspire others to achieve great things
For me, it all started because I wanted to spread public health & preventive medicine perspectives wider so we can create a healthier, happier world. Specifically, I began by helping entrepreneurs and start-ups new to the healthcare sector to optimise their value proposition. My goal was to help steer their focus towards areas of unmet need, while improving their chance of gaining adoption, scale, and securing investment.
Then I watched the BBC drama series, This Is Going To Hurt, based on the best-selling non-fiction memoir of the same name. It brought back vivid memories of my own first year as a junior doctor. Having personally gone through burnout too, I knew there had to be a better way.
I recently ran a survey on LinkedIN, asking what needs to be improved or changed? Here’s the result of the poll:
· 53% ways of working
· 29% workforce wellbeing services
· 17% medical education & training
· 2% medical school entry criteria
If we are to improve population health, not only do we need better preventive and healthcare services, alongside an intersectoral approach, we also need to help Patient Zero (fellow health professionals). This is my why. This is the thing that gets me up in the morning and dedicated to sharing ideas through Tribe Talks, and empowering doctors, nurses, pharmacists, and indeed all health professionals through The Entrepreneur’s Doctor.
While all this is true, deep down I have an even stronger reason why (which I share these in this week’s episode (see the video above).
Let me know your reasons why you want to launch your own business.
