The Power of Insights in Shaping Your Life and Work

"When you want something, all the universe conspires in helping you to achieve it."

- Paulo Coelho

It's only natural to feel frustrated by the challenges we face in our work, whatever they may be. Sometimes, we're drawn towards change, like seeking a new job or even starting our own business.

I'm attending a workshop this weekend, and to be honest, I didn't begin the day in the best of spirits. Behind the scenes, life has been tough, and many thoughts have been playing out.

From starting the day in a very low and pessimistic mood, one of the many wonderful exercises sparked a powerful insight that I'd love to share with you.

Insights are not always the dramatic 'a-ha' moments you would imagine, but often they are a very gentle, fresh new thought that changes the way we see and experience the world.

My insight today was to ask myself the seemingly simple question, "what do I really want?"

Though simple, the answer was profound and impactful (for me).

As a child, I dreamt of becoming an aerospace engineer, captivated by flight and innovation. Over time, my fascination shifted towards the brilliant minds behind these innovations. Marvelling at the incredible engineering of the human body, I chose to become a doctor, helping people be their best selves and contribute to the world's progress.

For the past 25 years, I've been constantly moving upstream, ultimately becoming a preventive medicine and public health doctor. Yet, something still feels amiss.

Why do complex chronic diseases persist? Why do we grapple with health and happiness issues? Why are we burning out in the process?

More importantly, are we doing the right things to improve personal, population, and planetary health and wellbeing?

Over the past year, I've been exploring a way to go even further upstream, which led me to attend this weekend's workshop.

My insight today reminds me that every step we take can lead us closer to the answers we seek and the transformations we desire. Once we've identified what it is that we truly desire, solutions and opportunities will begin to reveal themselves. Oftentimes, the solutions are not what we had imagined!

As we continue to reflect on what we truly desire, it's important to approach our goals with an open mind. What we think we want may not be what we truly desire or need. Our thoughts often get in the way. So, take the time to reflect on what truly sparks joy and a sense of aliveness.

Insights can be powerful catalysts for positive change in our lives and work. By asking ourselves the question, "what do we really want?", we open the door to profound discoveries and opportunities.

Our desires may evolve over time as we experience new things and grow. Let's embrace these changes and trust that they are leading us in the right direction. Trust that the universe has a plan for you, and with each insight, you get one step closer to fulfilling your true potential.

We're one insight away...

Love,

Behrooz
